Awareness program; Energy Saving

Energy is basic to life and the economic development of the human race. Without an energy source human society cannot exist and develop in the manner in we live and develop today. So it is important to save the energy and practices renewable energy sources. With the purpose of energy saving and to pay more attention to practice the renewable energy sources; had conducted seminar serious for younger generation (student) and some public awareness programs for general public last August 2011.

Location: Doluwa library hall, Doluwa town,Gampola. ( Gampola is the town which is located in Kandy district, Sri Lanka)
Organized by Practical Action South Asia and Funded by ENERGIA

Doluwa is the small town center which is located near to Gampola town. Few Months ago there had established Doluwa Hydro power study center which was opened by honorable Prime Minister D.M.Jayarathne and through out that project we could have supply the electricity to the Doluwa town center at the night time and the electricity for phone charged in Doluwa Post office at day time. Though it was opened the maintained had done by us until checking its operations for few months. With the purpose of handing over it to general public and creating the awareness of energy saving and renewable energy had conducted several programs.

In the morning session; School Student was the targeted group for our awareness programs.  Several schools in Gampola education division had participated to this event. Nearly 250 students had taken part to this event. Through out this session we had conducted several lecture serious regarding renewable energy types and energy saving. Such as solar power, wind power, hydro power and bio-gas.  We also managed to show the sample units of power generation .The response of the students were very positive and active.

In the afternoon session; General public and government officers had participated to this session and it was about “How does reduce electricity bill and why we should save energy?”.  While the program was going they had a chance to ask questions and doubtful areas. After finishing the programs most of them had given there idea and thanked to us.

Think a minitue:
The government of Sri Lanka had spent lot of money for power generation; Especially for Coal and thermal power(oil) plants. In peak times and drought seasons majority of power contribution had supplied through this coal and thermal plant. To import the oil and the coal they had spent more capital. If you save energy as much as you can; it will save the raw material importing cost. We can use them for country development.
Be a Responsible Citizen by saving energy.
