On December 2006 around 0300hours, terrorist sea tigers
forcibly boarded the Jordanian FARAH-3 Merchant vessel that was anchored off
the coast of Mullathivu owing to a mechanical problem. Captured the ship and
the crew, and the crew was later released. Ship was used as a firing pad
against Sri Lanka Navy boat movements. The ship wreckage was gradually
dismantled and taken away for production of various metal accessories
especially to improve soft skin vehicles and bunkers they used in fighting. On
14th of May 2009, Sri Lanka army captured this ship during the Wanni
Humanitarian Operation. Further this location marks the historical link up made
between Northern and Southern formation of Sri Lanka Army during the final
stage of the Humanitarian Operation.
